Bomb fuse cap

And once again on a rebound i picked this little trinket up.
I was told with good authority that this was a blanking plate
that screws into a fuse pocket in place of the locking rings
to convert twin fuse pockets into single.
When i tried it in a bomb casing low and behold it fitted so
cant see any other use for it than that.
It is made of brown bakerlite.

It saves the threads from damage etc. With a 1000lb bomb (example) we use to fit these with looting to preserve the threads. In storage the bombs were fitted with a single lifting lug. Once prepped they were removed, a cap fitted and suspension lugs fitted to the other holes. However, I might be wrong as I have not seen the item

Hi
Makes sense as this is the first one i have seen aswell, got to be something
to do with blanking the pocket off.

regards satan

Hi Satan,

It's like JP tells to protect the threads from damage when it's transported.
When they put the fuze in they have to take it out and it's German, found a few over the years on a old german airfield where they fuzed bombs.

If its in good condition thats fairly rare as most that are come across are usually cracked or chipped.

Hi Mad

Think thats nailed that one for sure,so once me 500s finished it can live in that for a while.

Regards satan

Hi Steve

Apart from two of the smallest chips, like a small fingernail cutting
its prety solid and screws into casings nicely.
