WW2 German Propaganda Grenade

Fragman

Hi, this grenade was ground recovered and has been restored. They are quite hard to find in New Zealand, so are worth the effort. The propaganda leaflets were fired at Kiwi soldiers fighting in the Casino area of Italy. I hope they are of interest to you. Cheers

Hi,

Thanks for your comments, glad it was of interest.

Andrew: I look forward to seeing the results of your efforts.

Does anyone know what stenciling these grenades originally had?

Cheers
Colin

Thank you for showing it! I have a couple of leaflets from East Front for the same size grenade.

To kiwicolin, all items what I have seen are no stenciled, but I am quite sure there must be some markings.

To Borman, what can I say - nice finds from the mud

Fantastic photo’s. Thanks for sharing. Here’s a photo I took at the Waiouru Army Museum a few years back. It’s taken through a glass case, so not very good. However, it does show a base cap on a propaganda grenade, complete with stenciling. I’ve not seen a cap like that before, even in drawings. Anybody else seen one? Cheers

Propagande Rifle grenade

Borman,

Is the item you post on the 4th of december not big for a rifle grenade?

To me it looks more like the German 8.6 cm rocket.

Chris

Yes, that is 73mm propaganda rocket.

Here some propaganda rifle grenades I cleaned a few years ago.
The one in other picture gives more challenge for restoring:tinysmile_grin_t:

There were hundreds of these in a burned storage, all burned and inert. however quite many had the nose caps still on place but inside was empty - not even traces of burned paper inside. Obviously they were packed without leaflets which were intended to be filled in later on?? Perhaps a suitable contents of leaflets was chosen and filled just before use??
