My mechanical Music

Despite germanys technology to build mechanical objects
to destroy themselves, they also added there contribution
to the world of Musical boxes.

Another of my past times is these over sized movements
that are a feat of high quality craftsmanship rivaled only
in germany and pipped by the swiss.

This is one of mine that came with a letter dated 1879 and
was a christmas present to a 12 year old boy from his parents.
This has an eleven inch cylinder and will play 8 german classical
tunes.
The cylinder has 6000 pins which were hand drilled into the cylinder
and the comb has weights on each tooth which provide the right
notes.

The one on the right is a swiss made Baker troll from switzerland
and dates from 1890.
This has a twelve inch cylinder and plays 10 operatic tunes.

Could such an item be made today with as much detail and sound
that nothing can match by mere mechanics.

Theyre really nice satan, were they in good original order when you got them or have they been restored

Thanks spotter

The geman one needed a complete overhall, and the swiss one just needed
a clean.
I actually brought these two when my two daughters were born so they can have one each when they get old enough to appreciate them.

Regards phil

Today one does the same by programming a computer in hour but what can be shown of that to the future generations after 100 years?
How many of you have left computers from 1980-90's, and do they work any longer?

That is very true reino as without these past treasures what have our children got left to inherit,Except dept and mortages.

Best phil
