25 pdr photos

If i remember correctly we used them for live firing about 4 or 5 times a year but this was back in the 1980s,My Bty then was 269 OP Bty (TA)and we had the 25pdr as training aids untill about 1990 then they went onto the light gun.
So no TA OP btys today ?

arty

what id op TA bty?? No we use them for everything,, wer use the 25pounder the long barrel 105mm and the short and we just got new 120mm Mortars

in my collection this one.

Bloome what is the round to the right of the 25pdr,i have found these in the past

25pdr

the manual on the 25pdr is all in black and white and the detail of fuzes and shells not as good as the earlier colour plates. I have included a few photos of my 25pdr shells showing WW2 and post war markings. Dave

Ordnance can have either a yellow band or writing in the same colour with no band. Depends who makes the stuff, you may of had two different manufacturers

yes know they are nato colours, what i mean is i havnt seen a 25pdr in these colours since then, inert in a colletion or otherwise and am begining to wonder wether i imagined it or not

I think they where al sold to a nice country where they still use them  or they where al repainted to look like WW2 ones.:tinysmile_tongue_t:

the 'green' ones were the Mk 3 - as mad has pointed out, the 25pdr stayed in service long enough to wear NATO colours. I really ought to add a Mk3 to my collection. The last batch of ammo was fired off at Larkhill in the late 80s/early 90s if my memory serves me right. Dave

25pdr ammo

Here is a few from a private collection! The HE DUMMY in the last pic is original colour from WWII the others in the transit frame are repaints.

More 25pdr ammo!

Note the date on the side of the 8rnd cart. transit box, this must have been loaded in 1981 in Australia. Blanks must have been used for salutes at least up till then! I did see a 25pdr in action on the TV from news clip in Iraq, early part of war. I have cart cases dated 1969 made by EWB, they came from South Africa.
Anyone got an original rammer spare I can purchase?

Not sure that UK 25-pr ammo was ever in NATO markings. Basically 25-prs were kept in the TA training org (OP Btys, HAC and UOTCs) until the ammo ran out. IIRC there was some scratching around and some odds and ends were purchased from Belgium, perhaps these were in NATO markings. There was certainly no UK made 25-pr ammo in NATO markings.
