Epay ban on ordnance??

The problem that we all face at the moment is that ebay had cornered the market in that it is so well known by everyone that it is the site that both buyers and sellers normally go to. Very few of the other sites, and there are nearly a dozen of them, advertise and the danger is that people will generally lose interest in trawling through numerous sites and sellers do not sell their stuff.

We need one site that will be a focal point for ALL militaria, not just ordnance. Sellers need to know that they will get enough people viewing their auctions, and their final price will be reasonable, otherwise there is little point listing on an auction site, it will just be a price list.

I have been in direct contact with AuctionArms but at the moment they are not set up to cater for anyone outside of the US, although they are looking into it.

Mike S is trying Tazbar with a few auctions but personally it doesn't feel user friendly. Specialistauctions (thanks to Charlie) looks better and currently has 1877 items listed under militaria. (Shame they can't spell ordnance though!). It is also an International site.

The point of this novel is that we need a consensus of opinion as to the best site for militaria and spread the word. I have access to at least a hundred names of people all over the world who have bought from me and from whom I have bought stuff, and I'm sure we each have a similar circulation list. If we advertise the site and work with the site to promote militaria, they may well advertise more widely.

What sayeth you guys?

I read Burney's small novel throughly and agree 100% with all his points.

If there are numerous auction sites that the numerous \"suppliers\" are going to use, then I agree the sale price of items will invariably end up as the reserve price, due to too few viewers/bidders, i.e. the site will in essence be a \"price list\" for Ordnance items as Burney aptly puts it.

Since I assume increased competition from more viewers will likely push up final auction price of an object, I would therefore assume most suppliers would be interested in a single auction site, with the largest amount of viewers/bidders?

I think the goal should therefore be twofold.

1. Find a single user-friendly auction site. Ideally it would support some of the following:
a. Preferably supports International Users & Currencies
b. Preferably supports PayPal ? (although I hate the thought of giving money to e$ay, it would give multi-currency)
c. Preferably supports multiple photograph attachments
d. Preferably supports Reserve Prices, Buy-It-Now, ie similar functions to e$ay
e. Preferably has a dedicated Ordnance section

2. Persuade as many suppliers as possible to use this site, as weight of numbers will eventually bring the other suppliers in as well.

Since we aren't about to design an auction website, (although we might be able to influence small changes), why don't we all take a look at the websites listed in this thread and discuss the merits of each auction site.

Am I off the mark?
let me know what you think?...better still lets decide upon a site, that we can suggest to suppliers

regards
Rich

Rich,

At the moment it looks like the site that meets the most criteria is specialistauctions. Regarding paypal, its unfortunate who the owner is but it is an expedient for the deal nothing more. It's there if needed. And thanks for the excellent follow up comments!

Email i received this morning...Ebay strikes again;

Dear asrbsales,

We appreciate that you chose eBay to list the following auction-style listing(s):

180150298790 - Inert Cutaway German ZZ42 mine/boobytrap fuse fuze

However, your auction-style listing(s) breaches eBay's Firearms, Weapons, and Knives policy and has been removed. In accordance with our User Agreement, items prohibited by law or by eBay policy are not allowed on eBay. All fees related to this listing have been credited to your account. We also notified members who placed bids on the item that the listing has
been canceled.

Since buying and selling weapons is highly regulated in the UK and Ireland, and may harm eBay and its members, you're not allowed to list weapons on eBay.

Other knives you're not allowed to list include:

- Any stealth knife. This is a knife or spike with a blade or sharp point which is made from a material not readily detected by metal detectors and not designed for domestic use, use in the processing, preparation or consumption of food or as a toy.
- Any knife designed for throwing.

You should be aware if you intend to list a knife on eBay that it's an offence to market a knife in a way that indicates or suggests its suitability for combat, or is likely to encourage the use of the knife as a weapon. It's also an offence to sell a knife to a person who is under the age of 16.

For more information on Firearms, Weapons, and Knives copy this link into a new browser window:

http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/policies/weapons.html

IMPORTANT NOTICE: If you relist this, or any other item that breaches eBay policy, your eBay privileges could be suspended. We value you as a member of our community and wish to continue this relationship, so we must ask you to refrain from further breaches of the User Agreement and eBay policy.

Please review eBay's Prohibited and Restricted Items guidelines and User Agreement at the following locations:

http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/sell/item_allowed.html

For more information on why eBay removes auction-style listings, or to write to us with questions, please review the following Web page:

We thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Regards,

I think wherever we go it'll have to start with fixed price auctions until the site gets known for ordnance and the there are enough users to go with a normal auction.

Im actually quite baffled why epay has pulled this sale when there are other fuzes listed as i write?

Just seen a couple of nice bomb fuzes of Uncle siegfried and they havn`t been pulled(yet)??

anybody like to add to this??

best

got this reply from ebull er sorry ebay..
Dear asrbsales, Thank you for contacting eBay. As previously stated, ordnance is not permitted, even if it's \"unserviceable\" or inert as eBay cannot confirm that the item has effectively and permanently altered for lawful and safe transport and sale. Thus, we must respectfully ask that you please refrain from relisting such items. I hope this information answers your question. Thank you for using eBay. Kind regards, Frederico EscobareBay Customer Support

look at my picture how permanently altered does it have to be

Here's a quick summary of the auction sites suggested, showing their location and the types of items sold on the site...

From initial appearances, it would appear that www.specialistauctions.com is a clear leader, being in the UK, supporting paypal directly and also having a dedicated Ordnance section.

SITE - CONTENT - SITE - LOCATION
www.speedbid.com M UK
www.egun.de M,F,H Germany
www.auctionarms.com F,H USA
www.gunbroker.com F,H USA
www.specialistauctions.com V UK (Supports PAYPAL)
www.milweb.co.uk M UK (Not Auction Site)
www.ebang.com M,F,H USA

F-Firearms
M-Militaria
H-Hunting
V-Various

I have already sent out an email to the following people (eBay ID) their thought on auction sites following eBay's uneducated over-reactionary policy department....

eurocollectablesuk, 0dusk0, seigfried, gerrythebomb, thehairbarebunch, rrickoshae, germanmilitariauk. (NOTE, these people sell mostly projectiles and cases, which is what i collect, this certainly isn't a definitive list)

When the responses come in, ill let you know

regards Rich

Lets see how long it takes before ebay removes this item ive just put on there....item no 180152659271 wonder if the words mine fuze inert etc have got the sirens ringing in ebays barn

I've had a few responses, so here's what i've found so far.

\"Seigfreid\" has an experiment with Tazbar (which I forgot to list) but has stated that the US site http://www.auctionarms.com/ is the way forward...they are welcoming ex-eBay suppliers with open arms.

\"Thehairbarebunch\" has also thought of Tazbar, but has signed up with http://www.specialistauctions.com/ after my suggestion.

Two of the others think that only small arms are being effected, and for the moment will continue with eBay, until/if their items are removed.

Summary
Siegfried SELLING ON www.AuctionArms.com
Thehairbarebunch SELLING ON www.specialistauctions.com
rrickoshae & gerrythebomb SELLING ON www.eBay.co.uk
eurocollectablesuk SELLING ON No-Decision-Yet
0dusk0 SELLING ON No-Response-Yet
germanmilitariauk SELLING ON No-Response-Yet

I hope this helps a little, but for the moment, look at www.Auctionarms.com and www.specialistauctions.com

Evening all! Further developments on a new auction home!!

I have tested the water with a number of the larger buyers and sellers who regularly use ebay during the past week and there is a communal feeling that we need to all concentrate on one site to sell all types of militaria, but especially ordnance. The most appropriate site seemed to be Specilistauctions.com and so taking the proverbial bull by the horns I contacted them directly, firstly to see if they wanted us and secondly to find out if there would be any problems or restrictions. I am pleased to say that their response to both was very positive.

The last few days have been spent discussing the next step with some of the better known collectors/dealers and it has been decided that an email will be sent out to all of the militaria contacts we have in our online address books suggesting a move to the Specialistauctions site. Between us we have many hundreds of contacts and if those contacts register on the site and pass the word on to others we can create a critical mass of enthusiasts on the site.

Some of the people already mentioned who are committed to moving are Siegfried, rrichosae, gerrythebomb, thehairbearbunch and myself (AKA largeborebrit) plus four others who I will not mention by name at this point. The email will be sent out on Saturday morning, 1st September and I would urge everyone to move it on. I will send it to admin so that it gets placed on the correct part of this site for all to see.

And the best thing of all is that if you register under your ebay tag your ebay 'stars' rating will follow!!

As always, constructive comments and suggestions are welcomed.

BD :woohoo:

Nice one Burney!:) .

All you fellas that have the contacts have been making a massive effort,so hats off to you!:woohoo:
I know one or two that are moving back to the shows rather than auction sites.
I am a collector rather than a trader, but if i double-up on things are i get bored with an item then i will try forums to test the water before i move onto a new auction site.
cheers

Hi all,

Just to confirm I have had confirmation emails from both rrickoshae and Siegfreid that they will be using www.specialistauctions.com. rrickoshae has also confirmed that the following eBay sellers have got together to sell on www.specialistauctions.com in the future.
(eurocollectablesuk, 0dusk0, seigfried, gerrythebomb, thehairbarebunch, rrickoshae, germanmilitariauk).

He also said there will also be a new section called MUNITIONS with Darrel Jones as the administrator.

Finally, rrickoshae also said he's currently doing the garden at the moment, so it might be a few weeks before he's selling his ordnance....but he will be there. !!!
