No54 hand or rifle discharged grenade

The only decent picture I have of the No 54 HE grenade hand or rifle discharged 2\" this was issued for a short time in an effort to replace th No36 or Mills Bomb. This picture is from an official pamphlet dated 1934.

SERVICE: Land

DESIGN/PART NO: BL 27027(E)

TYPE: Percussion, Hand or Two inch Discharger Cup

FILLED WEIGHT: 17.5 ozs

EXPLOSIVE CONTENT AND WT OF EXPLOSIVE: Baratol 80/20

PRINCIPAL DESIGN FEATURES: A cast iron body with machined guide bands, is threaded to receive a fuse at the top and a filling plug at the bottom. Uses an Allways fuse of the similar design to the Fuse No.247, with tape safety

MARKING: Yellow body, red filling ring, green band near base to denote Baratol.


MK1 introduced jan 1923 obsolete nov 1935
Mk2 introduced sept 1926 obsolete nov 1935 had improved detonator and sealing;and a single point striker needle.
 
And here's one I have that may be a prototype - see the longer body and the plain cap.

No raised ID or paint but just an arrow and acceptance stamps. The needle has 2 points so a Mk1.
