    WWI/French?

    Hi all,

    Can anyone identify this?

The distinguishing feature is an arrangement of several small (nail?) holes through the top cylindrical section.

    Thanks.

    Hi David,

I wondered if it might be a citron foug, but the only pictures I can find show much shallower grooves and a more 'lemony' (for want of a better word) shape.

Admittedly, this example has been hacked about with a file at some stage in it's life, but the casting marks that remain seem to indicate that those grooves were originally fairly deep.
