    Hi,
The cap is made of brass, coated with white metal; the body tube is of some kind of white metal (something like albata - German silver), it's not magnetic.

Hi Grenadier, It looks like yours has a body made of Phosphor Bronze, I have read about the bodies of No 1 grenades made of this, but have not actually seen one myself, usually of course they are made of brass. Perhaps the cap is plated with this too ? try this link about Phosphor Bronze ; [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phosphor_bronze"]Phosphor bronze - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia@@AMEPARAM@@/wiki/File:ShipPropellor.JPG" class="image"><img alt="" src="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/e/e4/ShipPropellor.JPG/180px-ShipPropellor.JPG"@@AMEPARAM@@en/thumb/e/e4/ShipPropellor.JPG/180px-ShipPropellor.JPG[/ame]

    Hello,
It could be something like this, but this Bronze has yellow color usually. The tube of the grenade is white.

CSOF considered substitutes for brass for No 1 grenades in June 1915. Steel was tried and hard-drawn copper, aluminium bronze were also considered. Six grenades of each alternative material were to be made up for CIW trials. Tin-phosphor-bronze proved easier to solder than aluminium-bronze and this ultimately became the favoured alternative receiving approval in Dec 1915.
