mid 17th cent Cannon Ball

This is my oldest item a English civil war period cannon ball,Taking into account some weight/size loss due to rust cleaned up it is now 1lb in weight and approx 2" in diameter .This was found near the England/Scotland border.I had it identified as a Ball for the small cannon called a falconet,i did have documents etc to back up this identification but have lost them

suppose if you knew where it came from etc may help with finding out how old it is
 
It will be hard to do as i got it from a car boot they must be some way of dating it :laugh:

not knowing its origins you could try find out when 6lb ball was first used in the UK ,thats assuming it originated here,this would give you the earliest date it could be...
