Savernake Forest

O.k as requested here is a short note on Savernake Forest, possibly one of the largest ammunition dumps of both WW1 & WWII.

This link will give an in depth history, use the Savernake Ammo Dump sub link within the site.
To the naked eye not much exists today, its just a pretty forest with a camping site and touristy walking just about everywhere, but look closer and military roads are visible and telephone insulators are still fixed in the trees. There are rubberised hard standings along the road called the grand avenue and in the forest there are tantalising pits with things like the supports (corkscrews) for holding barbed wire up sticking out of the soil.
