Russian 76.2mm tank rounds?

44 is a year of shell manufacturing (1944), "r" is russian "g" (so "god" is russian word for "year"). "3.257" is shell manufacturer stamp, "Zavod 257" (it is not "3", it is russian "z") - "Orskii mekhhanicheskii zavod", Orsk (town) mechanical plant. 404 is a lot number.

Here's a couple of photos of one of my Russian Arrowheads that is sectioned. Thanks to PZGR40, a fantastic job as can be seen by the close ups of the primer.
The separate steel slug behind the tungsten core is designed to follow through behind the core.
Dave.

The "short" case you have was the one used in the T-34 I believe. Confusion may have been caused by the fact that HVAP ammo was also officially listed as available for the Soviet M1931/1939 AA guns, which used a 76x559 case with a 102mm rim. Anyone coming across one of these might have assumed that it was intended for a tank/anti-tank gun.

The biggest rounds I normally collect are 57mm calibre (plus a few bigger ones used in aircraft), but I have got the 45mm and 57mm Soviet arrowhead shot, as shown in this pic from the Ammo Photo Gallery on my website:

SubcalAmmo.jpg

40x304R (British 2 pdr APSV Mk 1: Littlejohn squeezebore), 45x310R (Soviet 45mm APCR), 50x289R (German 5 cm KwK 38 L/42 Pzgr.40), 50x419R (German 5 cm Pak 38 L/60 Pzgr.40), 57x441R (British 6 pdr APDS), 57x480R (Soviet 57mm APCR)

Hi,
УБП-354A (foto 1, 2, 3) and УБП-353M (foto.4)

Regards.

...and of course all empty and safe!.

Sorry Endel, my mistake.
I tnink, the only differences between BP-350A and BP-354Пis a ballistic cap.
-Steel and aluminium.

Thanks a lot, Loslau!

The Al ballistic cap is full aluminium, but I cant find any drawings of this cross-section.

looking in Jane's Ammunition Handbook 1999-2000. The Frag-HE and HVAP-T projectiles are still in production.

I doubt that seriously. The last 76mm ammo was used in the PT-76 amphibious vehicle (gun D-56) and the cases for it were reused ones (have seen some from 1938!) and only the projectiles were made later (the late HEAT-FS "BK-354" on the round "UBK-354" with shortened case) somewhen in the 1980's latest. Which weapon should use these in 1999-2000 still?

БР-254П HVAP with plastic (karbolitovym) ballistic tip.
The subject of rare - in the collections of friends does not.

Russel,

Yes, your case looks like the U.S. 3 inch case used in the M10 Tank Destroyer, and the mobile antiaircraft guns in WWII. It has the exact neck and rim design of the U.S. case.

The separate steel slug behind the tungsten core is designed to follow through behind the core.
Dave.

Well, I descided to buy a new one when I had the chance. I cut this one too to find out it had no "follow up" core.
Results below

Ps: got some extra info: The type with the follow up steel slug is the post war type, the one depicted below here is the WW2 type.

On the Wkammo forum I was told I made some mistakes in this cutaway model, so maybe the moderator of this forum can remove the picture above as it is incorrect. Below here, the correct picture.
Thanks in advance,
Sorry voor de inconvinience,

Its still a beautiful section, and looks like it should be an easy fix !!

You mention the difference between the post war and the WW2 type, is the a simple way to tell without getting the hack saw out??....
Im hoping the date stamp is sufficient? I have two of these :)
