Hi Russell,

I have recently just lifted a restriction on the size of uploaded images from 512kb to 2048kb ( 2Mb). The problem you're having is that the images are over that limit. Although I can lift the restriction entirely, it would cause the servers disks to soon fill up unnecessarily and waste a lot of bandwidth causing the site to perform poorly for all users involved. When an image is taken straight from camera and uploaded, its usually in a format that is good enough quality to be send to professional printers who require the image detail to be that of 1000's of dots per inch, where as for a website it doesnt have to be anywhere near that quality as you only require it to look good for the screen which is usually around 100 dots per inch or less.

To put it in pespective, here is one of the original large images that was uploaded.

This image is nearly 2 Mb in size.

After a quick resize so its suitable for the screen I got the size down to 20k, which is one percent of the original size. Which means it loads on peoples browsers a huge amount faster and causes the server to work much more efficiently.

I am working to get a solution in place so you the users don't have to worry about the file sizes of images you are uploading and can upload whatever you want without a second thought but I have to fit this in with my day to day job as well so it's difficult to get things done as quick as I'd like.
