RAF Millom museum

waffenamt

Well-Known Member
Hi Chaps,
As part of my weekend missions away this weekend,i found time to visit the RAF Millom museum.
Its a split site, one full of these nice artifacts and across town full of aircraft cockpits and engines amongst other big stuff.
I had to do a whistle stop tour as my other pals would not pay the 5 entrance fee which i thought was reasonable.

A few nice fuze bits on display ranging from IB's to this nice 28A fuze.
It was donated by a local BD man years ago and to me fits the scene well as m sure this fuze was used as delay-action for anti-shipping use?
Barrow-in -Furness docks sounded the likely target then?

cheers

Tornado Cockpit, and the engines from an A-26 Invader that crashed in the marshes near Preston during the war.It was featured in a Time-Team Special a couple of years ago? Actually,i think it was a pair of them that collided?

Can you post the exact location as that may well highlight some interest, Post code for the tomtom users, grid for the campers or even lat long for our naval interested persons

Ah! I see now!
I was a little distracted earlier tonight when posting.
Great little museum but i think they should drop the price a tad especially with the current economical crisis and that Millom/Haverigg caters for family holidaymakers.

RAF Millom is on the South Lakes coast in Cumbria. satnav co-ords to follow tomorrow!
Approx 22 miles west of Barrow-in-Furness.

Could it be Polsten?

Oerlikon or Polsten (the simplified Oerlikon).

I visited Millom a couple of weeks ago and found my way to the site near the prison - I didn't know they had another. Sadly I was far too early and the place wasn't due to open for a while so I didn't get in.

Thank you Gents. :)
Tony and LC are correct on the Polsten make of the Barrels,i remember the guy telling me now.

Whilst I know very little about the weapons I think you arte right LCplCombat as I took this picture at Beltring some years ago and the sign attached stated it was a Polsten Quad 20mm Calibre.
