    Parachute Signal Flare ?

    Hi,

Would any members be able to identify this item ?

I believe it may be a parachute signal flare from either the 1960's or 1970's.

It measures 21cm with tail fin closed and 26cm with tail fin fully extended.

The opening at the front is 3.5cm across.

The body is made out of aluminium and the tail fin looks like it's made of tin.

I would be interested to learn what type it is

I?m sorry but the pics are a little fuzzy

    Many thanks,

    Invest

Hi Invest, Yes your item is the flare carrying rocket from a hand fired parachute flare. The Australian ref for the white flare is M127. I believe this is a copy of the US item. I have some more details if you would like them. This info comes from a training manual dated 1970.

Hi Invest, I have found this link that explains the operation of the the flare with diagrams etc, this is the US version. http://www.globalsecurity.org/milita...-23-30/ch5.htm

Have a look at this and I will scan the Australian pages for you, regards, Tony.

    Hi Tony,
I appreciate all the information you have provided
I originally found the flare on an old WW2 site, so was a bit miffed, as to why it was there. I guess some Aussie soldiers may have been training with it, so as to become familiar with how it works. I can't help but think, maybe before undertaking a tour of Vietnam during the early 1970's.
    Many thanks,

    Hello Joerg,
Thank you for posting the scans
It's great how fast responses to my question have been.
I'll have to look around and see what else I can post for identification.
    Cheers,
