20mm Madsen variations.

Attached are a few pictures of various 20mm Madsen rounds.

The one is particularly odd, the faint stamping on the side of the projectile says Exptl SAP HE-T - has anyone got any information on this variation?

All rounds inert, holes drilled, projectiles empty, primers oiled etc.

Dave.

20mm Madsen Armour Piercing Tracer

Has anybody got a picture of a 20mm Madsen APT (Armour Piercing Tracer) projectile, preferable produced by Kynoch in 1937?

Cheers

I have Kynoch drawings for three different 20mm Madsen AP-T projectiles, although I am fairly sure which one is correct for your case.

The drawings are quite large so I need to do a bit of nifty work with the scanner before I can post them later.

Tony

Here are the Madsen 20mm AP-T drawings I promised.

The first is the earliest production AP-T drawing, BK101-76 dated 25 Sept. 1930. note that this has a mild steel ballistic cap.

The second is the one I think belongs to your shell, BK141-55 dated 11 April 1935. This particular one is an export drawing in French but it is a copy of the original English drawing BK 119-94.

Finally is a (poor) copy of drawing BK 167-28A dated September 1938.

Would anybody know the colours of the 20mm Madson APT (Armour Piercing Tracer) projectile produced by Kynoch in 1937?

Cheers

20 mm Madsen case.

After many years of collecting, I finally stumbled on a 20 mm Madsen case for sale at the weekend, at a price that was as good as giving it away! I didn't think I was ever going to get one of these and then one appears out of the blue....well happy, but it shall probably be the same length of time again before I get hold of a suitable projectile for it!
Manufactured by Kynoch in 1954, the primer is intact and this one was for the A P T loading as can be seen from the headstamp photo.

The 20 x 120 shown in the photo below (from the Ammo Photo Gallery on my website) is a postwar round (headstamp 20 X 120 FNB 86) made by FN in Belgium. The projectile has the following printed on it:

T
20 X 120 MADSEN
AP-T
FN 75
LOT 01 FNB 86

20mm2.jpg
20mm CANNON CARTRIDGES TO 1945 PART TWO
20x110 (HS.404), 20x113 (Lahti L34), 20x120 (Madsen), 20x125 (IJA Type 97; and Ho-1, Ho-3 a/c guns), 20x138B ('Long Solothurn' used in FlaK/KwK 30 and 38), 20x139 (Swiss FMK: drill), 20x142 (IJA Type 98), 20x144R (Bofors m/32)

What about this 20 mm Madsen headstamp? It looks strange.....typical Britisch layout, dated 1939, manufacturer "M" (?) opposed to the typical "K" from Kynoch. And on top of that a WaA. What do you guys think? Real of homework?

The 'MADSEN' looks a bit hand engraved/stamped,not sure why someone would go to the trouble to do that though.

Not only that, I also find the "39" a bit shady. On top of that, I am not aware of any German brass Madsen cases, nor such early German Madsen cases, nor WaA (Madsen is typically Kriegsmarine), nor a Abnahme on Britisch captured ammunition (and I doubt if Germany ever capture significant amounts of 20 mm Madsen ammunition).....so a lot of doubts from my side. So or a very special rare case, or it is made special.....as for the last option, I am aware of post-war Belgium Madsen cases without headstamp. It could be somebody made such a case "special". I will need to have the case in my hand first and check it with optical tools and comparison with other Madsen cases.
