    identify this V1 look alike?

    calling all rocket experts! Can anyone identify this flying bomb look alike? It has twin fins and according to what the original owner wrote on the reverse, it was shot down by HMS Cumberland in 1958 (either it was a very slow one from WW2 or a trials target). Any ideas?

    Re:identify this V1 look alike?

    HMS CUMBERLAND was used as a trials cruiser after conversion for this role at Devonport completing in May 1951. For the next eight years this ship was used as a trials platform for many different types of weapons systems as well as of smaller pieces of equipment prior to their introduction into Fleet use. She was broken up 1959.

    The Americans were making their own V1s (had a silly name) with minor mods as early as 1945 and carried out the first submarine launch in 1946 - so I suspect it was an early conceptual 'Cruise missile" or "Exocet" shot down by an early version. of "Phalanx"

    HMS Cumberland has a veterans' association - could try them for more info.

    The American version was called the "Loon"

    This might be the answer you want;

    France
    The French produced copies of the V-1 for use as target drones. These were called the CT-10 and were smaller than the V-1 with twin tail surfaces. The CT 10 could be ground launched using a rocket booster or from an aircraft. Some CT-10s were sold to the UK and USA.
