Hi Tim,
Great grenade, thanks for sharing the photo's. I've seen a few example now and they all seem to have differing quality casting. Ed's done really well at putting together some information on this rare grenade at:

It has no longitudinal serrations as with Types "91 and 97", but has five transverse depressions. Onone side, fitted top and bottom, are two metal rings which could be used for carrying a number of grenades attached to the person, or for anchoring grenade for use as a booby trap.
It was filled with 39.5 grams of granular TNT and the fuze gave a delay of approximately 5.5 seconds.
OPERATION:
To remove the lead cover, the cover thumb release catch at the side must be depressed. The cover then screws off in one and a half turns, exposing the firing string. When the firing string is pulled, it draws a friction igniter between pieces of match composition and ignites it. The match in turn ignites the five and a half second delay train which initiatesthe detonator, thus setting off the main charge.
CHARACTERISTICS:
Length overall 33/4 in
Length of fuse cover 1 in
Diameter of body 2 in
Diameter of cover 11/8 in
Weight complete 15.8 oz
Weight of body 14.4 oz

'石井'is a Shijing Arsenal(石井兵工厰) located in Shijing Town, Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province, China. It was established in June 1874. After the outbreak of the Second Sino-Japanese War in 1937, Shijing Arsenal was relocated and merged into the 40th Arsenal in Guangxi. It was abolished in 1946.Shijing Arsenal's alias: Guangdong Arsenal, 41st Arsenal.
The type 23 grenade MFD:26 years of Republi of China＝1937。
The grenade was actually made in China and captured by the Japanese in the Second Sino-Japanese War and plunged into the Pacific battlefield.

Jibarium, is 石 the same character that is on the base of the grenade? It looks different to me, more like 后.
