    No. 76 Pistol

    Hi

The correct nomenclature is Pistol, Bomb, No. 76 Mk.1. The "P" is just a short form of the word Pistol.

    Regards

I don't know why it's different. The No 76 was designed in the early 1950's and replaced all other Nose pistols in service from about 1953 onwards. It was the last Nose Pistol in service with the RAF and Royal Navy because after about 1970, the aircraft then in service all carried their bombs on external pylons and pistols were not suitable for being carried externally at high speed.
