Citron Foug French grenade.

navyman

Well-Known Member
Hello all,
I'm trying to make a repro fuse/det set for a Citron grenade body. I've made the wooden plug, and an (inert) det and short piece of (inert) fuse crimped to it, but can't find a drawing of the ignition part. The only thing I've found so far is the attached picture. If anyone can help me with an image/drawing/sketch of the internals I'd be very grateful.
Best regards,
navyman.

Dano,

you are a wonderful 'mine' of information, always so keen to help. Its what makes this forum, please keep it up. If i can do half as good, i will be happy.

I try to jump in when I can, which isn't too often. I know a little on one thing and almost nothing on everything else. It's been a learning experience Andy, and feel fortunate to be here..Dano

Hello navyman

Usually, there is a different fuze for this grenade, with a "real" spring. If you want, Monday I'll can take more pictures for you.

Heres a sectioned one for you.
Inside the wooden fuze is a small metal disc which holds a primer. above this is a wooden cylinder which supports the striker. A tin disc is nailed to the top of the fuze to hold all this in. all you had to do was remove the domed cap (not shown) and hit the striker hard to light the fuze.
cheers, Paul.

Pascal,
Thank you so much for the pictures. The micrometer is a great help. I was heading toward the lathe when your message came in! I wish the Post Office were as efficient as yourself.
Thanks again,
navyman.

Here are some inert Citron Foug from me. I am not sure, if the paint on the left one is original. All three have restored fuzes.

this may be a bit off topic, but have you ever noticed how some grenades look like Christmas ornaments?

But, that is a pretty odd, but cool looking grenade there.
Never seen one of those, though.
Pretty neat
