Very nice Waff.

Some day may be I will be lucky and find a projectile to go with my KwK43 case.

Of course you know you will need a AZ23/28 fuse.

Regards
PC

I will keep an eye out for you SG on the proj.As for this one on this, isnt it a badly stamped fuze?.Im sure thats a wonky `8`??

Thanks Waff.

One way of how not to remove a projectile :banghead:

The AZ23 was for lower velocity projectiles. Hopefully someone will have a picture of the 23/28

OOF!,i bet that hurt! Did you buy it like that mate?

SG,will either of those fuzes i pictured do for my proj?

Hi Waffy,
SG is quite correct, you'll need an AZ23/28 fuze which, as far as can tell is identical in appearance externally to the AZ23 you have on that projectile. I think the AZ23 was used in lower velocity projectiles...heres a pic.

Its still a gorgeous round waffy....Im pretty sure they're my favs in my collection

Cheers Rich,good shot there.
i do like the eagle on that one.
Am i likely to find a fuze for it or will it be a quest?

thanks

Waff

The C/28 (I think) is for a marine projectile
The Igr Z 23na is for an Infantry gun like the le IG 18.

Yes I bought the 8,8cm case like that. I could never afford a mint condition one.

Well, as it turns out, the KWK43 HE was one of the very first rounds I purchased..and wasn't aware of the significance of the AZ23/28 fuze at the time. (ignorance is a theme I'm still fighting with)

I have read several times that its quite rare, but I really can't comment...SG, whats you're view?

Rich

When you used to see them for sale on that auction site they went for big money.
The other thing I have noticed over the years is that the majority of 8,8cm sprgr projectiles are sold with the AZ 23 so at the very least the AZ 23/28 is a harder fuse to find.

Waff
Is your projectile the Sprgr or the Sprgr 43 ?

SG

SG,
Doesn't the wider driving bands designate the sprgr43?? in which case Waffy's projectile is correct for a Kwk43 case, apart from the fuze?
Rich

Im glad you boys know that as im new to this KwK43 caper!

Ive now got the two rounds that were bought at the last Malvern show.I think they both be getting some TLC this Sunday after the Leeds show.
I shall keep you informed.
again,cheers chaps.

Rich
Yes the difference is in the width of the drive bands.
The narrow band projectiles could be used, but only for new barrels that weren't worn.

It is the same for the pzgr projectiles with the:
pzgr 39-1
pzgr 39/43

SG

Make sure you post some pics Waffy...they should be two attractive rounds when you're done..
...course now all you need is a matching set of Kwk36's and Kwk42's ;o)

Rich

Thanks Rich,will do.

Ive just brought the case downstairs ready to ship on Sunday.
All i need now old friend is some money for Beltring!:trytofly:

cheers
