1.5 pounder COW gun round

Like most of us when I started collecting I had no money and made do with whatever I could get........well the same is true of my 11 year old son..........which was a bit of a problem when he said he wanted a 1.5 pounder COW gun round just like mine!!
As he didn't happen to have 200 spare (one sold last week on Specialist auctions for that amount) he had to make do and improvise.
First he got hold of one from specialist auctions - the seller has had a few of these on there for a while, they're sea recovered and after a hell of a lot of tender loving care from me plus filler plus hammerite the projectile was done.
Next came the case, well, Malvern was kind last weekend and he picked one up for 3!!
So all in all the projectile was 10 and the case was 3 plus filler/paint so total was about 15 for a complete COW gun round, not bad and he's probably one of the only 11 year olds around with a complete one.
Link below shows the sort of condition it started off as plus some photos of his new round.
Dave.

Very nice looking round! It is great to hear that your son is interested in the more important things in life, and that he has a great mentor to help him along.

It is amazing as to what you have done to refubish the projo. A good start to a collection.

Thanks John, yes I've not done a lot of restoration work on rounds, most of the ones in my collection are bare metal or original paint jobs. It does make you realise how careful you have to be when you buy or swap rounds. If there's no stamping on the projectile then have a very very close look at it but to someone starting out on a collection its a good way of getting rare rounds as long as you know what's been done to it.
Yes my son is on the slippery slope to collecting........and as his 2 sisters and Mum aren't interested he ends up with quite a few spares!
Dave.

Fantastic restoration.

Good to see the "illness" is running in the family Dave !

You have done a very nice restoration job on that round-well done !

You will have to get your son into the experimentals now ?

Thanks for showing us.
