Hi all, :tinysmile_grin_t:
I thought that this might get you all running for your reference books. I have had no luck in finding any reference to this variation of fuze. I know that it is Japanese although it has no Japanese characters but the letter A on one side and on the opposite side the numbers 19 6. The 19 I would understand as meaning 19 Showa which is 1944 and 6 as being the sixth month. It was not unusual for the Japanese to use Roman numerals at times. There is no arsenal marks at all. This fuze has been known to be found on Japanese 37mm HE rounds.
I would rather think that it is a siplification of the standard Type 88 PD fuze, requiring less machining and therefore the manufacturing process is simplfied, perhaps made by the Japanese in workshops in China.
It is interesting to note that there is no external safety pin but only the two centrifugal pins which arm the fuze during rotation within flight.
The threads are the same as the standard Japanese Type 88 fuzes and the standard gaine for the Japanese Type 88 Fuse screws perfectly into the base.
Does anybody have any information on this variation. I would be interested to read your feedback on this fuze.
Cheers,
BOUGAINVILLE. :tinysmile_grin_t:
