Smle????

MissingSomething

Well-Known Member
Had a kind of neat find.... A training SMLE rifle... made of a solid wood stock, cast iron trigger mech, cast nose piece, lead weights inserted... strange rear sight.... Any ideas as to providence... Only has K.A.W.S. marked on butt by steel butt plate....

Trigger group.. solid cast iron with lead insert painted where magazine should be:

Rear sight:

Cast nose piece (SMLE bayonet fits perfectly):

Inserted lead weight (making rifle actual weight):

Only markings: K.A.W.S. or R.W.A.S.

None of the parts appear to be actual SMLE parts including the sling swivels.

Bayonet training???

G'day Will it attach a bayonet? I'm thinking of a bayonet training rifle but it looks a bit flash for just a training model. I have just reread the post and am an idiot I will read things a bit better in future

Hi ,looks like it could it be a film or theatre prop? I saw one a few years back very similar with a cast iron action and nosecap ,regards Dave

I have i am sure seen these things before, maybe on feebay and they are very rare and can fetch a lot of money.
Training rifles were made officially i believe, not many have survived so a really fine catch, Well done, ime envious.

Andy

Thanks guys.... looks like the pre-war one (Thanks for the link Spotter)..... just no broad arrow marks like one would expect... makes you wonder....
