    Large British Round.

Can anyone help identify the following round (presumably British).....offered in a local militaria shop for £100. Dated 1945, very well re-painted, but I don't actually know what it is!...I had to guess, but the case was over 0.5 meter tall

    ID

Looks like a 6pdr 10Cwt cart. but without headstamp or dimensions it will be hard to ID!

Hi Ozzie, the projectile was definitely bigger than a 17Pdr and looked more like the size of a German 88mm or US 90mm...unfortunately I don't have the headstamp yet.

Rich you lucky person, if its the size you say you may well find its a 32 pounder. Difficult to see without the headstamp and scale but it looks just like the last one I saw!!

GO BACK THERE REALLY FAST AND LOOK...........before I get there first LOL, no seriously you really do need to go see.

Ok, ok ok, Ive been a bad boy, it was a bit of a wind-up I was going to wait until 1st April, but figured that would be too obvious. My intention was to see how many people would identify it in the thread....unfortunately my private message inbox is now rapidly filling up !!! (hmm didnt think that one through!!)

It is of course a British 32Pdr Case and HE round held by Bovington Tank Museum in one of their store rooms. I was lucky enough to visit there with rrickoshea toward the end of last year. I believe Bovington have occasional store room guided tours, which I would strongly recommend being part of. As Im sure most of you know the museum has THE finest collection of AFVs in the world, so I'd strongly reccommend visiting.

I have larger better quality pictures of the round and headstamp, Ill post shortly.

If anyone has any engineering drawings, or other photos or stories, it would be great to hear them!!

Sorry to all I might have wound up ....there is of course no local militaria shop.

That's kind of cruel to tease everyone like that.

What is the diameter of a 32 Pdr. projectile?
