These photo's were taken from "Holland & Holland The Royal Gunmakers " author Donald Dallas.

In 1930 Holand & Holland began to manufacture "whale marks " for marking whales by firing in specially made single shot 12 gauge or .410 guns.

Thousands were made stopping only in the 1970's as more modern methods were developed.

12g Whale Markers.jpeg12g Whale Marker Cases.jpegI got these two 12ga Whale Markers c.1990. I never saw a .410 one for sale.
These are common in Australian collections.
The Badminton H&H case and the all brass Fiocchi.

The paper tag goes with the Fiocchi case. I do not know why UK used Italian cases in 12ga and .410 instead of all Btitish cases.
