Hi chaseuk45, have you been successful in finding a fuse for your egg. If not I may be able to help. Remember there were 2 thread sizes on m1917 German egg grenades. (some igniters will screw into the egg easily whilst others will not, maybe just a slight pitch difference?)...........Dano

Hi Dano, I have ordered a couple off SA but i don't know if they will fit. As you say the pitch on the thread may be different! I will post when they come and let you know.

    Thanks

Yeah Chase, by all means let me know. that thread deal has been a sort of mystery to me for a few decades. At one time i thought the pitch difference was due to being a Yugo or Czech egg, but not so sure. That brings me to another question. I have never found a thread difference on Kugel grenades which incidently take the same fuzes as the egg so maybe the Yugo, Czech theory does hold water??? Any other ideas gents or maybe I am just urinating up a rope? By the way which model igniters did you order (I just gotta know) Dano

    M1917 n/A threads

I just can't seem to let this go. Case in point, I have 2 seemingly identical m1917 n/A German WWI egg grenades sitting next to each other. On one of them say a m1915 pull wire igniter screws right in. On egg 2 the igniter will not. Yet I can take a standard transport plug and it will easily screw onto both eggs. Now what's up with that. Just don't seem to make sense. I've even thought of "thread pull" (on either the grenade or the igniter) but that don't wash either. Did you realize that the German WW1 egg is actually a defensive grenade? put 25 - 50 of them in a sack and you could defend the living s__t out of a given position, which was the main reason for the small size was that many could be in the old grenade bag at the same time. I'd have to say there is a 50/50 chance this story is true, but only a 30% chance of that!!!!! Dano
P.S. Chase, would love to see a snap-shot of your completed m1917n/A egg grenade.........

Sweet egg grenade Chase. Looks like you found a fine 1915 zinc/alloy igniter. The body I will refer to as mold 4 (covers all banded eggs that are not mold 1,2 or 3) The projects are fun and rewarding as well. Keep up the good work Chase...Dano
