Snider & Martini Ammunition Boxes

picked these up yesterday too- the Snider box needs some cleaning, these have their metal linings so have not been reused for 303. The Snider box is dated 1874 and not common type over here. It looks like it wold be strapped into something or on something, longer than the usual kind. The Martini box is for 1891. There is a letter N stenciled on it, would this indicate Navy ?

Very nice boxes! Never seem to see that sort of stuff over here (well, not at the militaria fairs I go to).
Yes, I would think that the "N" indicates Naval issue.

Cracking box!
I thought i'd done well this morning finding a ww1 H1 with no lid and just the glue left from the labels!!
Just to confirm, the N is Naval.

Thanks, needs a bit of cleaning, I'm going to try and keep these. I had two nice ones previously it would have been a decent collection if I still had them. Oh well who knew I'd find more ~
