Torpedo Models

Hi All,

Just wondering if anyone has a photo off, reference to or any other documentation on the early Schwarzkopf torpedo fuze? (Early as in late 1800s up to WW1 period)

That is apart from the excellent "USN 1903 Schwarzkopf Torpedo" reference mentioned above?

Has anyone seen one in a museum somewhere?

Thanks

Cheers
Drew

Hi Glevum,

Excellent! Thank you kindly - any ideas on what period the torpedo head and size (21"?) in your photo is from?

Hum, now this poses the question if they use identical fuzes in the different size torpedos?, or slightly different base size circumferences to better match/streamline the warhead size....(14", 21" etc)..................the early production ones (late 1800's) were narrower overall due to the logical more pointy streamline belief, which later tests proved didn't really provide any real advantage over ones which were wider but could carry a higher explosive payload......

Thoughts on this anyone?

Thanks

Cheers
Drew

Hi Bill,

The Ebay links references are long gone as these were posted back in January 2012 by Kz11gr -but the 2nd one refers to the "1903 USN Manual" which I have (available on "hnsa-org" as well).

Yes the diagrams are excellent, but Im unable to tell if drawn to scale or illustration purposes? - hence seeking actual closeup photos - if they exist.

The "navalhistory" link is excellent except no diagrams nor photos of the actual torpedos - only the ships that used them.

Even contacting a number of naval museums has produced very little - the quest continues.

(Yes - the "hnsa-org" is an excellent link - especially for gyros as well)
Thank you

Cheers
