    Driving/Rotating Band Question

This is something i should perhaps know, but don't!
Is there a reason why some driving bands (as per the picture) have vertical groves prescored?

Also, do the number/design of these groves vary between different models of the same calibre projectile?

And is it possible to identify the country or place of manufacture from the driving band?

    Cheers

    Pete

    Hi Pete,
totally out of my depth here but I wonder if the 'rilled' ridge on the lower drive band is for worn barrels? just a thought as I have Russian NR 30's with a ridge on the drivebands for this reason

    Cheers
