KB-1 Submunition

I received this today an INERT KB-1 Dual Purpose submunition from the former Yugoslavia..This is both anti armour and anti personnel,,Having both a shaped charge and an outer matrix of ball bearings set into plastic.

M93 and M 94 KB2 yugo rifle grenades

Hi WEBEREOD, has the M 94 in the picture has plastic explosive in the nose cone?. The ones I found in Bosnia where partilay filed and had explosines in the cone. Here a cut away I made whichs shows excatly as I found them.

Why would anyone do that? The way the explosive is shown in your cutaway would render the shaped charge ineffective. The cone wouldn't serve any purpose. Why the air gap behind the cone? It just doesn't make any sense to me.

Yes the tech intel report I have on the M 94 KB 2 has the entire warhead filled with a PE. Hadn't really noticed it until SLAP asked the question why. But it is filed, the report says it is a modified M 93 KB1 so I asume they were after a larger HE AP warhead.

I have 2 or 3 techintel reports on this grenade and a load of other yugo grenades (I don't break my yugo grenades up by country) was trying to laod a report but didn't make it. So I'll have to cut and paste later

Blu how did you cut the frag sleeve and what did you use to fill the explosive cavity ??? ive been trying to cut mine for several days now and to be honest its come out a mess,especially the frag sleeve

These are the hardest to cut, I used a knive to cut the plastic, removed the balls where was going to cut, with the hacksaw cut the body and glued the balls back in place. Another method I did was cut it very slowly with a dremel tool, but then you have to do it slowly otherwise the plastic melts.

lot of struggling Blu,,left all my tools at old house when split from mrs so having to struggle with small files ,multitool and wet n dry paper and a borrowed hacksaw.
basically hacksawed the body and used small files to expose portions of the fuze which allows me to show how it functions,,,to cut frag sleeve i cut it in two then cut around the balls and carefully trimmed off part of the plastic to expose them,i did try to fill the explosive cavity but couldnt get it right so just painted the inside..

The M94 grens were very rare. M93 was the most common grenade produced for Bosnian army from 92 to 95. Also M93 was my grenade of choice in combat (if I had no yugo M60 or M60P1).
KB-1 bomblets were used mostly in 128mm M67 MLRS and 262mm M87 Hurricane MLRS, while KB-2 was used in classic artillery 122mm, 130mm and 152mm shells.

KB-1's were scattered all over the place when the ASP in Zagreb went up in '94. That was the one thing we had to watch out for the most.
