I'm seeing that Tony Williams' Assault Rifle Book from 2004 might have some info for you. You might write to him about it.

The 4th site listed in hypertext above makes reference to an author
Julian S. Hatcher in his book, "hatchers notebook."

There is also a lot of information in Tom Dugleby's book "EM2 - Concept and Design", but it is hard to find these days. Peter Labbet had a TAG on the 7mm series also which might be easier to find.

I have plenty of source information and copies of original letters and trial reports for both guns and ammunition but it will be a few years before I ever get round to writing anything!

I gave you the very basic ammo sequence yeasterday and will try to dig out some more info for you.

Cheers

Hi Richard,

Had a copy of Peter Labbett's TAG on these rounds with me yesterday; - you should have asked!

If you do not already have it, and would like it, e-mail me.

Regards,
Roger.

TonyE - that little conversation we had is what has got it all started:wink:

Roger - yes please can you email me a price

Thanks you all, I think this is a very interesting time in Small Arms Ammunition evolution.

Richard.

Richard - You might find this interesting as it is a very important part of the british 7mm story.

It is a copy I have of the original memo dated 1st April 1949 from Brig.J.A.Barlow who was Director of Armaments (Small Arms) to the Chief Engineer Armament Design, Fort Halstead, instructing them to redesign the .280 cartridge to match the U.S. T65 rim diameter. This of course became the .280/30 round.

Both Kynoch and Radway Green were soon producing the new round, initially with the 130 grain bullet and then with the ballistically superior 140 grain.

I have also attached an original photograph, either from RSAF Enfield of CEAD Cheshunt, of Jansen's original handmade EM-2 prototype.

Regards
TonyE
