V1 Reichenberg

Mark, the "Rammjger" were armored aircraft (wing fronts) and the pilots were not meant to be "single use".

They were on a few days ago on one of the "History" channels. I think they called themselves the sonner-something. They were using regular Me-109's. One pilot told of taking out a B-24 I believe and another one told of ramming the tail of a B-17G. The B-17G was able to keep flying and made its way to an alternate landing site in France that had just been taken over by the U.S. Army. This German pilot almost didn't live because when he did hit the tail it was around 23,000 feet and he passed out. He awoke just in time to pull his chute around 12,000 feet or so. (?)

There were different implementations of this. There were earlier such collision tactics (with regular fighters) which were only the last measure in some cases. Later the Sturmjger were used which were armored FW-190. In the total end there were extreme light Rammjger (I just found that there were different names for these) ME-109 which got removed the armor plates and all guns except for one MG131 and 50 rounds. These were able to climb above the max altitude of the bombers and their escorting P-51/P-47 and dive down onto the bombers.
