Nice spot Dave.
I Ski a fair bit & had heard of ordnance being fired to shift potential avalanche piles but never come across anything official until last year in Seattle.
At Steven`s Pass they have signs warning of not messing with UXO/poss UXO items on the slopes. (apparently they use 105mm Hows in some areas!!)
I have been around when they have let off charges to shift snow but these have been placed not fired/propelled.

Maybe I`ll pack a Flak vest & Kev Bone Dome next Ski trip!!

That's an anchor from the old Combat Engineer Tractor isn't it. Seen one of those fired (rocket motors) where the commander didn't undo the locking pins; lots of melted aluminium :)
