New to Site - Help with Pistol Identification

Hello !
I am new to the site, though I have occasionally browsed it in the past.

Am posting some images of what I believe is a "pistol" that I have owned for a few years.

For quite some time I thought it to be a depth charge pistol, but it has no pressure valve (if that is the correct terminology?) and no other vent or hole for water pressure to activate it? And so, if not pressure activated, am now worried it may not be safe....
is it possible it has any sort of detonator or explosive charge in it? If I am correct and it does not function due to pressure, is it a timer activated device? And does the timer activate the piston/pistol, or does the timer activate a small charge or detonator?

Body of item, and inner cap, are marked: eov M3721 . Additionally, inner cap is also marked ff in a small circle.
Outer cap is marked on its inside: fon M 99027 , with an additional "M" stamped above, and an unknown mark in a circle below.
Inside, with both caps removed, bakelite (?) "point" is marked: cwh, in a circle.
Large outer rubber ring, or seal, is marked, in stamped ink (very faded): 30 Sep 1944
Approximately 10 inches or 25 centimeters in height, and very heavy.

Hope my description helps in identification ! And, hope the photos are not too big!?

Any input or opinions would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you in advance!

This is a German "ZE1" sterilizer for ground mines used to neutralize mines after a certain time (up to max. 80 days). There is maybe more to be said but that the fuze specialists here may do that .

Hello !
Appreciate this information! Spent a couple of hours poking around on the net after reading this but did not come up with much more then what you wrote.
So, essentially, this item is a timer, and would not have any charge or detonator in it?
Thanks,
Jeff
