WW1 German Lighter/Shell

Got this off Flea-bay and have been trying to figure out how it works :help:

I don't know how a flint is put into the flint holder.

I've filled it with lighter fuel and lit the rag end, but to get the spark to light it, well I haven't a clue :hmmmm2:

Any body identify the Markings on the bottom?

As the flint wheel is central, i think if you looked in the base and pulled a bit of the wadding out you should find the other end of the copper or brass tude that the wheel sits on. in the base of that should be a littlew screw and rather long spring.
The case is a WW1 German 37mm 1pr case, best regards Weasel.

Finally got it sorted, I think...

I managed to work out that the flint holder, was actually a tube that held the flint on the end of a spring.

So, by turning it several times carefully, it became loose and could then be pulled out of it's pocket hole.

After much to-ing and fro-ing, trying to get the spring out of the tube, it finally came out.

How long ago was this last done?

After a good clean and added oil, all the parts were put back in place with a new flint added.

Problem solved!

Ran across this lighter made from French/US WWI 75mm shell with spiral fuze. I thought to post this as some time was taken (possibly by artilleryman) to make this lighter. Thought seriously about buying but just too far from collecting realm. Just a super cool piece........Dano
