ARNISH POINT 4 inch Gun Emplacement's, erosion and corrosion

Hi all I have covered this subject before in 2012 , I have just come back from the Isle of Lewis and was surprised to see so much damage with Erosion and corrosion in 2 years , The Look out Tower roof has collapsed, salt and high winds have taken there toll. the 4 inch Gun emplacements are really falling apart showing the rebar reinforcement with heavy corrosion, there was blocks of concrete and rebar on the ground. one of the 4 inch emplacements has sunk 2 to 3 feet and looks very dogey as its a drop straight down to rocks and sea . I never took any risks. in 2 years to see so much damage and to think in 2012 my head is were the roof is now scary , I don't think it will be long before its blocked off as there's a real chance of an accident waiting to happen . the ladder to the tower ...well I just looked up very unstable up there . ive uploaded some pictures of the tower with me in it 2 years ago and what its like now after the collapse . Manned by royal navay during WWII . it was quite sad seeing it like this but that's time .....

Cheers Ken

Hi Ken,Thanks taking the time and risk to bring us those pics, one of the problems with this type of construction is that it was not built to the standards of the Atlantic Wall in France, the salt air and rough cast porous concrete started the corrosion many years ago, such a shame that part of our recent history should be allowed to decay like this,
Don,

This is what is to believed a 3.7 inch AA Battery just inland of stornoway isle of lewis , it was buried until new work was carried out on the golf course I took in 2012 taken from the stornoway war memorial , quality is not the best used a 28 x zoom . I tried to get into the area in july 2014 but work is bee carried out ?? My friend on the island says its definitely an AA battery and has some info on it , but any official recordings have not been found to my knowledge , He found something on google which I am having trouble finding again . the zoom picture of the 4 inch battery once again not the best quality , stornoway war memorial is the highest point in the area .. never went back up this time , maybe I should have and seen something different but my new camera is a 18-55mm lens so would have trouble seeing it ?? if anyone has info on this structure that would be brilliant . Thanks

Ken
