Swedish 10.5 cm M1945 Recoilless Rifle

I ran across these pictures on the Digitalt Museum web page ( www.digitaltmuseum.se ) and since the subject doesn’t seem to have been covered here before I organized some of the museum photos to present some basic information on this cartridge. Included are pictures of the some various loadings used with the 10.5 cm infkanon m/45 recoilless rifle and related material.

Apparently the 10.5 cm infkanon m/45 was short lived and was soon replaced by the 84 mm Carl Gustaf recoilless rifle m/1948.

The cartridge case has a side wall primer and an indexing notch in the case rim to orient the primer with the firing pin. There are also short side wall crimps near the rim that I assume were to support the blow out disc in the cartridge case base although there are no photos showing the cartridge case base/ blow out disc.

While searching the web I soon found out there is very little info on this weapon system. One brief discussion hinted that the 10.5 cm m/45 was sold off as surplus in the 1950’s.

The information for each photo comes directly from the museum description. The rough translations are mine. Please feel free to make any corrections or additions.

Anyone know the case dimensions?

Does anyone have one of these rounds or a case????

Photos and accompanying descriptions:

1a) 10,5 cm patronhylsa m/1945, http://www.digitaltmuseum.se/things...1945&search_context=1&page=2&count=224&pos=40

1b) 10,5 cm patronhylsa m/1945, red arrow indicates the indexing notch in the cartridge case rim; yellow/green arrow indicates the sidewall primer.

2a) 10,5 cm patronhylsa m/1945, #2, http://www.digitaltmuseum.se/things...onhylsa+m/1945&search_context=1&count=2&pos=0
This is a photo of another cartridge case and provides a slightly different view of the notched rim and sidewall primer. Again the red arrow indicates the indexing notch in the cartridge case rim; yellow/green arrow indicates the sidewall primer.
The description provided by Digitalt Museum for this cartridge case: Beskrivning: Grupp F II. "Frinfkan m/1945, bakblsare. Bottenavbakplt vid laddadhylsa". Roughly translated = Description: Group F II. For infantry cannon m/1945, recoilless gun. Bottom of rear place (of breech… ?) the loaded case.

3) 10,5 cm skarp patron m/1945 med lttsprnggranat m/1934, frskdning (rough translation = 10.5 cm (live?) cartridge m/1945 with light explosive grenade m/1934, ?) http://www.digitaltmuseum.se/things.../1945&search_context=1&page=1&count=224&pos=8
The red arrow indicates a sidewall crimp that may help the hold the rear blow out disc in place or ???? The nose fuze may be a Spetsanslagsrr m/1934-40 (?).

4) Spetsanslagsrr m/1934-40, http://www.digitaltmuseum.se/things...1934&search_context=1&page=3&count=283&pos=58

5) 10,5 cm skarp patron m/1945 med pansarsprnggranat m/1945, frskdning (rough translation = 10.5 cm (live?) cartridge m/1945 with HEAT m/1945, ?) http://www.digitaltmuseum.se/things.../1945&search_context=1&page=1&count=224&pos=0

The red arrow shows the indexing notch in the rim and the black arrow points to a sidewall crimp.

6) 10,5 cm blind laddningspatron m/1945 or drill/dummy round, http://www.digitaltmuseum.se/things...1945&search_context=1&page=2&count=224&pos=38

Note the wood projectile, dummy nose fuze and what appears to be a solder filled crimp groove near the case rim (red arrow).

7) 10,5 cm cartridge storage tube. http://www.digitaltmuseum.se/things...rgranat+m/1945&search_context=1&count=4&pos=3

8) And finally the recoilless rifle: 10.5 cm infkanon m/45

The infanterikanon m/45 was sold in the 50,s to Dominican Republic. As mentioned earlier it was soon replaced by the 8,4cm granatgevr Carl Gustaf . This weapon was constructed by the two engineers Hugo Abramsson and Harald Jenzen which also was constructors of 20mm PVG and 8,4 cm CG.
A total of 65 units were made and served only 7 years in Sweden.
Collectable ammunition for this weapon is almost zero in Sweden, I have only seen one(attached photo) round in a private collection. And no cases!
The ammo was available in HE ,HEAT and practice. the HEAT round was uniqe for the this particular weapon. HE shells was standard m/34, also used in fieldhowitzers. Case Length 355mm.DSC_0231 (2).JPGDSC_0234.JPG

rottenfuhrer,

Thanks for the important additional information. It would be interesting to know if anything has survived from the Dominican Republic.
