I have two WWW I 80mm shell casings one has:

Polte Magdeburg Sept 1916 st215 sp252 on the bottom

The other has Patronenfabrik Karlsruhe Jan 1917 St261 sp255

I know they are German but that's all I know they were my Grandfathers & I believe they were his fathers
they also have both been engraved one with "Souvenir of war Belgium France Flanders Ypres plus lots of decoration the other is similar with the date 1919 engraved on the side.
they need a bit of cleaning which im in the process of doing now very carefully.

Would anybody be able to give me any info on these.

Thanks

could you put up some photos please, I'm sure members will be able to help you with some more info.

Hello,

yes, normally photos and full meassurements are needed. But the headstamps make it clear that you have german 77x230R cases for the "7,7 cm Feldkanone 96 n/A" and the "7,7 cm Feldkanone 16". These cases are very common. These guns built the backbone of the german field artillery.
