Hi I need some help to authenticate this one:

Baseplug: No 36MM 1 SMC 40
Filler screw: Z WD C
Paint: 3 red X and green line around
Body stamp: 8 REL

Is this a version No 36 Mk 1, what year, are the plugs, pin and screws original?
I also wonder how these grenades where packed? Did the detonators come in the ´Det Tin´ and the grenades just loose in boxes?

Thanks for the help.

NOTE: This is a deactivated/inert grenade.

Looks to be a find example of a No 36M to me, but there are specialist collectors of these that will be able to help you out with all the details regarding markings, packaging etc.

regards Kev

Looks to be all original to me . Outstanding example . Thanks for showing it . Mike.

All original parts, although a mix. A Revo Electric Co. Ltd body, a Thomas Green & Co. lever and a Singer Manufacturing Co. base plug.

I may be wrong as grenades are not my usual collecting area. If I remember rightly, the filler screw was made by Wolverhampton Die Casting Co. The "Z" stands for "Zinc".

First off, thanks to everyone who replied. Ive tried to do my own research on the Mills but some questions still remained unanswered, therefore I needed some help from you guys (experts).

So did the Mills grenades come with body, lever, base plug and fillerscrew all from the same manufacture? Does this mean that this mills sample is a ´collection´of different grenades?

This is how the Grenades came packaged, in a G36 See this post http://www.bocn.co.uk/vbforum/threads/28346-G-36?p=62364&posted=1#post62364 Ignore the first picture....

Oh, okey. I do collect the original cases, this one becomes to big for my display. But the igniter ´tin-box´ might be a good substitute. Anyone have a closeup photo of this can/box?

Yes from 1917 onwards the Mills 23 Mk III and the Mills 36 had body, lever and baseplug marked with the makers names. Some makers made all parts so there are grenades with matching parts. I have in an extreme case seen matching makers marks on Body, Lever, baseplug, centrepiece and filler plug in a Kenrick example.

Here a couple of photos of a det tin (WW2) and Mills Crates.
