Cutaway 40mm Airsoft Grenades

I know that there are a few members here that are into the airsoft sport so i thought i would share a few photos of some of my cutaway 40mm airsoft grenades that i have in my "cutaway collection". For anyone who is not familiar with the airsoft sport these grenades fire either 6mm or 8mm plastic balls (depending on grenade type) and are powered by filling with gas/Co2. Various size grenades shown from 18 round to 120 round.

Thanks Dave but the milling machine does the hard work for me.

I cut out roughly with a hacksaw and finish off on the milling machine to get a decent surface. On the cut faces I prefer the brushed metal look so just use a bit of oxide sand paper.

One silly question - how does such a grenade work?
As I understand, it is filled with a compressed gas via a non return valve (the brass thing usually on top?) - but how is it discharged? I think the piston at the bottom is released and moves back, opening the way for gas to the barrels - but how actually is the piston operated?

Yes you are correct with the way that it operates, once filled with gas and ammo the grenade is loaded into the grenade launcher, when the trigger is pulled a pin pushes against the bottom centre part of the grenade (see attached photo) when this part of the grenade is pushed in it releases the gas and allows it to blow out of the barrels.

Yes, that is correct.
