The stencil markings are as you can see 36\SM MK1 MOD 3 strangely it appears to have no stamps or other ID at all.
Dimensions:
53cm long, 16cm across, Fin shroud depth 11cm, 51cm around the body.
It has a small open hole in the end that clearly shows a red/orange detonator up front, that has a 4 hole center. The paintwork is strange as it appears to have a deliberate false aged look, as if it has been a screen prop at some time.
Anyway can someone please help me identify it, as yet I have not found anything like it on the web.
I would like to say a special thank you to the behind the scenes people responsible for making this forum so easy to use, especially the downloading of pictures.

It looks like a movie style prop, the finish appears to be 'antiqued'.
The stencilling also looks too big for the size of the item.
Maybe something to top of your Christmas tree?

That is exactly right, I have come to the same conclusion, it is a film prop or something for a reenactment. As you say the whole appearance is wrong. Why someone would go to the time and trouble to make it, is perhaps a little confusing. Why not use fiberglass, plastic or even cardboard if you are only fooling a camera or an audience. Even if it was made to deceive a collector it's not a rare item and no way would you cover the time and cost of it's production.
It has been very professionally made, the cuts and welds are very well done. It must have taken hours to make. Could be a board metal worker with nothing better to do. I only paid £40 for it so it was not made for profit.
Now! should I take it back as wrongly described, (Deactivated Practice Bomb) or keep it as a fun conversation piece?

not sure on this one??

my initial thoughts were a smoke float, but doesnt conform to any I know.......this is what I mean - http://www.bocn.co.uk/vbforum/threads/65392-Smoke-float-no1?highlight=smoke+float

could you post further pictures of the nose assembly and also dimensions please?

regards Kev

kahu1 is correct, once again I have been deceived by the master forgers. It is now on my Christmas tree as advised. Please read the post below and thank you all for you help.
I once married what I thought was a porn star, however I was even wrong about that.:tinysmile_shy_t:

Possibly not meant to deceive, lots of props are 'kind-of-like' something ,seems to depend on the knowledge or interest of the artist(and how much they are getting paid).
Maybe they had a movie requirement for a 'Smoke float', researched on BOCN,or the wider web, made something that looked a bit like something they'd seen.Producer happy, prop maker paid.
I've got some movie props, a 5.5" shell cast from an original, all painted up with correct markings. The film it was in ,possibly on screen for 3 seconds, in a darkened environment. They could have used a painted coffee tin!

I think I will put it in my man cave with all the other strange things I have collected. Just a shame the maker did not copy an actual existing bomb. Perhaps it was made for a Road Runner cartoon by Wile E Coyote? It did however come from RAF Hemswell, the back drop to the famous Dambusters film, seeing as its Christmas I will run the film again and see if I can see it. Plenty of other inaccuracies in that one apparently.
