Very nice indeed - I believe that only about 100,000 of these were made. There is a thread with a bit more information on these igniters somewhere on BOCN. Are there any markings stamped on the igniters?

Cheers

Great tin, lovely condition. Was the tin soldered closed or sealed with tape? Please can you show a side view and the base of the tin? Are there any numbers stamped on the tin?
Cheers
Gary

here are some more pics, including the primers that go with the ignitors and their wooden box(about same size as ignitor tin)
ignitor tin appears to have been a spam can tear off type
some ignitors are marked,T.E.C and a proof mark with N28 below it,some are marked ICL and some have no marks
ignitor tin is stamped RL on the lid and the bottom of the tin is stamped with a broad arrow and a symbol in a diamond(to small to see)
brass cap holders are marked ICI N I 1 12/56 19
wood box is stamped broad arrow N6 MK1 and has NZ navy seal tape

Nice find. The Igniter, Safety Fuze, Watertight, No 1 Mk 1 was a late war development (from July 1944). Production orders were placed with Thrissell's of Bristol (70,000) and ICI Derby (30,000) on 23 July 1945.

I have a load of the long tins and tops for ejector seat carts but did not know the lids were WW2.....Dave
