Hi there I wonder if any one could help to identify some of the cannon cases, thay are all alluminium and the sizes are as follows
picture 1 - 30 x 100, 30 x 111, 30 x 112,23 x 182 and 27 x 140
picture 2 - 30 x159, 30 x 159, 30 x 172, 30 x 172, 30 x 185 and 30 x 185

any help or details would be appreciated.

I think some more of your measurements are mixed.
The 23mm should be 133mm long.Never seen one in aluminium, only steel.

Anyway, a very nice selection of what appear to be largely a mix of 25mm Bushmaster ,30mm WECOM and 30mm GAU8 development cases.

I would think member SG500 will be able to positively ID these.

If you don't want them i can find a home for them in NZ!...;)

Thank you for the quick reply, all the measurements are accurate and the one that appears to be a bush master is 27mm and not 25mm as I do have a bushmaster 25mm round/proj and this falls in, and a 27mm proj fits quite nicely, further to this the previous owner had written 27mm bushmaster on the case. possibly they may have been looking at upsizing the 25mm round, who knows ?

cheers

Nice selection Womble. You had me all confused with your photos, photo 1 is the lower of the 2, photo 2 is the upper one.

One of the best books I know is the one below. Just type it into google and download the free pdf.

AFATL-TR-84-03 Dale M Davis historical development summary of automatic cannon calibre ammunition: 20-30 millimeter

Photo 1 (lower of the 2 photos)
30 x 100 WECOM (American aircraft)
30 x 111 and 30x 112 both look like Aden HV cases (British Aircraft)
23 x 133 (I think you have measured it wrong when you say 23 x 182) looks like a 23 x 133 AMRON HS 823 (American aircraft cannon). If you check the photo you'll see its shorter than the one to the right of it that is measrues as 140 so it can't be 182 - see comment from kahu1 above. See link http://www.bocn.co.uk/vbforum/threads/38762-23-x-133-amron
27 x 140 .........is the rim diameter 47.8mm? If so it could be a 27.5 x 140 Amron (American)

Photo 2 (upper of the 2 photos)
27 x 159. Is it definitly 27mm and not 27.5mm? If the rim is 40mm then it could be a Mauser 27.5 x 160 (American aircraft cannon) - if you wish to sell one of these cases I'm after one for a projectile I have :)
27 x 159.......as above see this link http://www.bocn.co.uk/vbforum/threads/77220-27-5mm-Rounds

30 x 172 the purple one, is the rim 43.8mm? Probably a Gau 8 (American aircraft cannon)
30 x 172 it could be my eyes but this looks thinner than the purple one, could you confirm the rim diameter on this one please
30 x 185 Is the rim 45mm? If so it could be an AMRON AX RE 5 (American aircraft)
30 x 185 as above

Info taken from Big bore ammunition 2 to 80 cm by Hawkinson

Thank you very much indeed for the reply and info, I will check out the links when I get time, to answer some of the questions, first of all sorry chaps for any wrong measurements, it had been a long day and yes I had been drinking so I must have had the beer googles on for some of the measurements and also when I put the photos on it moved the first photo down to the second position.

Any way details as follows
photo 1
23 x 133 (yes -sorry the dreaded beer googles)
27 x 140 base diameter is 44.75
photo 2
27 x 159 at the neck OD 28.50 ID 27.30
30 x 172 purple base diameter 43.81
30 x 172 base diameter 43.86
30 x 185 base diameter 45.00
30 x 185 base diameter 45.06

with many thanks
