Hi skull,I could be wrong but I think that looks a bit like a starter cartridge for a jet engine,Canberra I think,
Cheers,Don,

Useful WWI German 28 cm Mortar case

Here is a WWI German 28 cm Mortar case which makes a very good holder for the 10" - !2" aluminium waste bins, which fall over if you look at them.
For your case to be a Engine Run Up cartridge No 10 Mk3 for the Avon engine used in Hunters, Canberras and others, it would have to be 7 and 1/10th inches tall x 2 1/5th inches across top x 3 1/5th across base.

I have had a look at it and it is 22cm across the outside of the mouth, 23cm high and 23.5cm across the base.
The mouth has a rounded edge.
I have never looked at it since I bought it. I got it because there seldom seem to be large calibre cases about and I just believed what I was told at the time.
To be fair to the vendor, I may have forgotten the calibre, but I am certain I was told it was a mortar.
Do you think it has been cut down?
Perhaps it is a 21cm Mortar case for the mortar at items 24 and 25 of SKSVLADs recent visit to Montreal Canadian War Museum, Ottawa, Canada?

Hi...yes, your shell case is for the howitzer shown in the post you mentioned. I have several of these and your measurements are exactly the same as mine. It is for the 21cm Morser......which is really an artillery howitzer...maybe called Morser because of the steep angle of descent the projectile would have had. Nice case, isn't it ?
