Not much on ebay these days but got this before xmas for 18 quid, quick wash and beeswax all over and shes a goodun! Tig:tinysmile_grin_t:

Trying to find a nice round to go in it is more difficult! :tinysmile_fatgrin_tTig

And then there were 2! Ebay for 12.50, its had a wash and wax and im happy with it, not common and nice with the Fraction markings. Strange its brown painted with an extended date of 1948? After discussion thought it should still be green? Cheers Tig.

Tig,

I think EXD is 'Examined', BN is ROF Blackburn who made fuzes, which ties in with 'XR' (bottom left corner) denoting the fuzes had been X rayed.

Should have added I.O.O. is 'Inspecting Ordnance Officer'

Thanks for the correction Tim! Didn't know where BN was so nice to know. What are your thoughts on the colour? Was thinking the green stayed in until the late 50s? Thanks Tig

Your 2" HE Box Steel B167 is marked in service brown (499) which started around 1944 until the present day.
Your light green (225) 2" Smoke bomb box stayed that colour until the back end of 1947, when it was also painted service brown.
A large number of 2" smoke bomb boxes produced in North America around 1943 were wrongly painted service green, so to get over the need for a total scrape and repaint, a band of light green was painted right round the box at both ends and a light green bar was painted top and bottom of each end.
