WWII Japanese 37mm Antitank Cannon Telescopic Sight

Here is something that I am trying to purchase. Can any of our Japanese experts positively identify this as the correct sight for the Japanese Type 94 antitank cannon? I have also located one of these guns ,and I am attempting to get it for our local WWII museum. Thank you for your help.

Hi Steve,

I had a look through what information that I have and I am quite sure that it is the correct scope for the Type 94. While I can't say yes 100% all that I can say is that based on one photo (Japanese Artillery weapons & tactics page 117) it certainly looked as if the sight is the same as in your photos. I certainly can't find the scope with other guns, some of which I have excellent detail concerning scopes and sights used.

The Japanese besides having an operators manual for each and every gun they also had repair manuals. While I have some of them I don't have the one for the Type 94 37 mm AT gun. These manuals are worth while looking for. The repair manuals that I have are full of excellent illustrations with dimensions.

I found a gentleman in the US with the Jap 37mm gun with the correct sight. The sight I show above is too long for the antitank gun. A Japanese friend says the sight above is for the 37mm gun in the Type 95 tank. The tank sight has a 2 power magnification. The antitank gun is 2.5 power magnification. The pictures above show the magnification as 2 power.

Here is a link to a Japanese website which shows the 2.5 scope and the 37mm AT gun. Also has plenty of other very interesting information and very photo heavy. The pages can be translated by right clicking on your mouse and clicking on "Translate to English" option. If there are any pop ups then tick the box to prevent pop ups and try again.
