Spoof email?

Twice today I have received an email purporting to be from www.specialistauctions.net

It is informing me that my registration is confirmed. (I havn't opened it) It says my account has been successfully created. What is strange is that I don't use SpecialistAuctions. I vaguely remember creating an account over 10 years ago when I was doing Historical Reenactment, but I havn't done that for over 5 years. Now the strange thing is, it has my name and what could pass as a username.

Has anyone with an account there experienced this late email, have they been hacked, or is it just appaling service?

Yes, I got the same thing this morning.
I have never had an account with them, although I did look at some of the stuff for sale on there over the years.
I'm guessing its a spoof??
Either way, it got deleted....

I received the same email (in my spam folder)

Specialist Auctions hasn't operated for years.

The email had my username and gave me the opportunity to sign in, which I did not do. I suspect someone has the data from the old Specialist Auction site giving them a list of email addresses and usernames. They might also have other details from people that had been users of the site or they might be phishing for users current details including address, etc.

had two this morning,I don't think it's a hack but maybe someone who has access to the admin side of SA has sent account activation e-mails....which I know can be done en mass as we use the same software as SA did,it could also be the 'owners' of the software doing it as they do have a 'backdoor entrance' to the software to gain access to a 'site',we had a similar problem with this until we changed the host server from the software 'owners' and blocked them.

It look likes an attempt to relaunch Specialist Auctions under a new address, now it's a dot net, and with a wider range of categories, not just militaria.

With quickfire auctions well established for the items that eBay doesn't permit, I don't see what they can offer that quickfire and eBay doesn't already offer to collectors.

If you click on the link provided on the previously link I gave,it shows that the domain for Specialist Auctions is up for sale
