A British soldier survives being in a brutal Japanese labour camp http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2058107/, after the war he tracks down a Japanese camp commander responsible for his pain and ..... The main question posed is "When does one let go of the pain of the past?". Is it 1 day, 1000 years or 1 minute? Highly philosophical question. We are told to forget Ottoman atrocities in the Balkans, whilst reminded of the Ottoman genocide of Armenians. The Soviet Block concentration camps are largely forgotten, whilst Germany and Poland are prosecuting 100 year old WWII criminals. Obviously, everyone has a different answer to that "When?" question.

A poignant film. Highly recommended.

As an aside, I am currently wearing a new-manufacture, but production-distressed Bulova watch which was worn by the actor playing young Finlay in the Singapore scenes.
