Can anyone help with a cartridge identification, please.

Hi, not sure if this is the correct area to ask for any information on a cartridge I have.
It is 6 3/4 inches long and approximately 1 1/4 diameter. Hope the pictures work to explain better. Thanks in advance.149003991092470572014.jpg149003999709374667517.jpg1490040070137193664145.jpg

Looks to be some kind of burned out flare or tear-gas round.

    I'll throw in a WAG - large(artillery) primer.
Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt.

I would say a primary cartridge that goes in the tail of 120mm mortar.

Thanks for your replies. Are they very common? as I cant find any pictures online, unless I'm doing it wrong.
