This Canadian movie http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3182620/ covers a mass murder in Ukraine perpetrated by "progressive" Communist Politburo of USSR lead by Joseph Stalin. Ukraine was always rural and agricultural, known as a "bread basket of the Russian Empire". People had a great attachment to their land from which food came. This was contrary to the Communists' idea of an ant-colony-like society where everyone owned everything and nothing at the same time. So Communists confiscated land and food, thus leaving people to die from starvation. I've seen this film as a German copy with the name "Holodomor" which is an official name of this event in Ukraine, and can be loosely translated as "Death by starvation". Millions died. The movie has a love story taking place in the middle of this disaster, so it tries to put a bit of positive spin into this dark event. Well acted and colourfully costumed, it will please your eye. The true event was much more bleak.
